I have just one broken slate on my roof. Do I need a repair?
January 25, 2024I have an occasional leak, it doesn’t leak in every rain
January 25, 2024You might have plywood, tongue-and-groove planks, or waterproof insulation under your slate roof. Historically, slates were installed onto roof planks and if a leak were to occur, it would drip off between planks and thus manifest inside: easy to identify, easy to fix. Unfortunately, impermeable wood decking or insulation beneath the slates will hide leaks from the inside. If you don’t have a professional inspect your roof regularly from the outside, you’ll have extensive wood damage or even mold.
