I inherited my family’s historic home and was told my slate roof needs maintenance. Do I really need a specialist to do the job or can I handle it myself?
February 29, 2024Why is it so important to hire an experienced slate roofing company instead of a general contractor?
February 29, 2024The key to choosing imported or domestic slate requires knowledge of quality, price, and even color preference. Regarding quality, some roofers use imported slates that are sub-standard and have a much shorter life-expectancy. Olde World Slate only uses S1 grade slates for roof replacements.
If you prefer earthy tones and natural variations in your slate, then domestic slate is the better option for you. Vermont Unfading Green and Purple are the least weathering Vermont slates, and sometimes, they don’t weather significantly enough to be visible from the ground. However, if you want a non-weather black or gray slate, it makes sense to buy an imported product. It should be noted that there are a few crossover products that fall between these two categories, which require a detailed explanation to understand. Olde World Slate would be happy to provide you with more information upon request.
